The Brubaker Family

The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

A Week-End In Holland With Our Missionaries

We left for Apeldorn, Holland this afternoon. Elder and Sister Clivejk were the guest speakers at a fireside. We enjoyed the fireside very much. Elder Kleijweg is the Europe Area Authority, and we are so fortunate to have them so close! They live near Rotterdam. They take very good care of us.
We felt like this was the welcoming committee in Assen! Lucky for me, almost everyone speaks English!

The next morning we drove to Assen, where we attended church for the 1st time. We loved meeting the members here. Scott and I both bore our testimonies, as it was Fast and Testimony Meeting. The members were so kind and friendly to us. We felt right at home in Assen. Afterwards, we took Elder Robert and Elder Douglas home to their apartment. We were pleasantly surprised to see how tidy their apartment was, and even with no warning! The dishes were done, beds were made, and we had a great visit with them.

Elder Douglas and Elder Robert are doing well in Assen, Holland.
We are always trying to get to Gronigen where my niece and her husband and family live. We almost made it this time, but we had other missionaries waiting to have a visit with us. Please know we are always thinking about you Sarah and Hilbert! We have fallen in love with this part of the country as we made our way to Almaar. Hopefully I can find out the history behind the beautiful swan motifs on the roofs of the houses in Friesland. On top of the barn with steep pitch and mostly thatched roofs you will often find what is called a Dutch hip design. This means there is a small gable end atop a hip roof on both ends. These ends are embellished with swans and a central spire.
Painted in traditional green and white- they are quite the eye catcher!

It is very cold and chilly in Holland. How does the grass stay so green in the middle of winter with temperatures around -7.0 centigrade? The countryside is beautiful year round!

A favorite past time in Holland.
Elder Dalpias and Elder Bastian were just about ready to leave for an appointment when we arrived. Their apartment was immaculate! They found out we were coming just a few minutes before. We have very obedient and happy missionaries that are finding the elect....yes, even in Holland!

This is a typical farmhouse in Holland.

  1. Thank you for the photographs of the countryside. It is so beautiful. It reminds me of our farm in Ohio, no wonder our son is loving being in Amersfoort. Sister Carolyn Pratt
