The Brubaker Family

The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

Our First Transfer in the Netherlands

Our first transfer in the Netherlands! Sister Tanner and Elder van OverBeek arrived today from the MTC!
They were very excited to finally be in the Netherlands. They arrived just a week after we moved into the new mission home in Leidschendam!
The assistants gave them a taste of what it is really like to be a missionary
They were able to use all their skills learned in the MTC on real live investigators!
Leiden is beautiful and is where the new mission office is located. There is a distinct monument that distinguishes this country from all the rest......WINDMILLS!
After having an invigorating experience with "finding", we thought it appropriate to bring them to a very authentic "Pannekoeken" house for dinner. When in the Netherlands, eat as the Nederlanders do!
A fun, delicious new tradition begins!
We are the happy recipients of this delectable treat in Holland. What is a pannekoek?

It is a Dutch pancake. Pannekoeken are usually larger and thinner than American or Scottish pancakes. They may incorporate slices of smoked bacon, ham apples or other fruits, stem ginger, cheese, or raisins, mushrooms, onions etc.

Sister Tanner and I shared a dinner pannekoek and a dessert pannekoek. We are so glad we did! They are huge!

Anticipation was growing all the way back to the mission home. Special envelopes were waiting for the missionaries.
Elder van OverBeek will be serving in the beautiful city of Arnhem in the Netherlands. He is going to love his trainer, Elder Fullmer.
Sister Tanner 1st area is Amsterdam and she will be blessed to have Zuster DeGroot as her trainer.
The map of Holland was packed in a box, so we all gathered around a small transportation map to show the new missionaries where they would be going.
The next day-TRANSFER DAY! Zuster DeGroot and Zuster Kremer came from Amsterdam and met us at the airport.
Zuster Wassenaar was flying in from America. How could we be so lucky? Zuster Wassenaar has been serving in the San Bernadino Mission. She is from Den Helder. Her visa expired before her mission did, so we get to have her for the last four months of her mission! She will be serving in Amsterdam with Sister Kremer. Zuster Wassenaar and Zuster Tanner met their companions for the first time!
This seems to be a common sight when you live in this beautiful country. This is what we saw on the way home. We still ooooh and aaaaaaah and will never grow accustom to the beautiful land of the windmills.

  1. Zuster Wassenaar was serving in the mission here, where we live! I talked to her once, while our daughter, Zuster Rich, was in the MTC- asking her what Abby should expect. Interesting they're in the same mission now!
