The Brubaker Family

The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

Miracles in Amsterdam

Marta, Amsterdam, September 18, 2011

If Marta's story had to be summed up in one word, it would have to be "miraculous". :) On Friday, 22 July 2011, we received a phone call from Marta, looking for Mevrouw Ingrid. We told her that she was speaking with the sister missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to which she replied, "Yes! You're the ones!" :) She told us that for a few years she has felt very lonely. A few months ago, she had a strong feeling that she should go back to church. She didn't know which one to go to because there are so many different churches, so she ignored the feeling multiple times and tried not to think about it. One day, an old MormonAd came to mind that she had seen on TV, and she remembered how happy the people had been. Marta called her mother to see if she knew more about the Mormon church. "I don't know much," her mother replied, "but I have a book that was given to me by two mormons about 3 or 4 years ago. You can come and look through it if you'd like." Marta received the copy of the Book of Mormon from her mother, and inside was a testimony written through a Sister Ingrid who had served here years ago. Sister Ingrid had also written the number of the sister missionaries here in Amsterdam, which Marta used to find us! :) Marta came to church two days later and has come every week since then! She instantly fell in love with the church and the feeling she received when she came. She was ready and eager to apply everything she was taught. During the teaching process, she often said things like, "I feel like Alice in Wonderland-I just can't believe a place like this exists!", and "When I called you a few months ago, I had no idea how valuable these things would be for me!". She entered into the waters of baptism on Sunday, 18 September 2011. After coming out of the water, she summed up her feelings with one word: "Heerlijk!" :) She truly is a miracle!
