Bernard Lawson - the Hague -
August 21, 2010
Missionaries came in contact with Bernard about two months ago at the baptism of Brigitte Akon. Because of the special Spirit that he felt at the baptism, he wanted to meet with the missionaries. Bernard has always believed in God and Jesus Christ. He is 53 and comes from Togo. His wife passed away many years ago, leaving him and his six children behind. All of his children live in Togo now. He has always hoped that he would be able to be united with his family again. When
he told us at his first appointment that he had already been baptized six times, we knew that he had been, and still was, searching for the church of Jesus Christ. In a matter of six weeks Bernard prepared himself to be baptized on August 21, 2010, making a commitment to keep all of the commandments before they were extended. He loves reading the Book of Mormon and made it to the middle of the book of Alma before his baptism. Although his mother language is French, he was
able to understand the things he was taught in English and Dutch through the power of the Spirit. He is so happy to finally be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because he knows that it really is the true church that was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. Because of the joy he is experiencing, he is actively doing missionary work and inviting his friends to learn more about the church. He finds peace in knowing that one day, he will be reunited with his wife and children. (Written by Zuster Sharp)
