Daniel, Sister Davies and Sister Herring
Daniel's story is a series of one miracle after the next. Daniel was found by a random phone call. We decided to call every contact listed in our phone, and try and make an appointment. Daniel was one of the people that we called, and when we asked if we could make an appointment with him, he said yes! We were a little surprised that he had actually said yes, but we were excited to teach him. The first time we met Daniel, it was very apparent that he had a lot of faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was so prepared. We just had to fill in with the restored gospel! We taught him, and each step of the way, he loved what he was learning. But then came a stumbling block. He knew he liked what we were teaching, and he knew that it was good, but he didn't know if it was true. We decided that a great place for him to receive the confirmation to be baptized would be, at a baptism, of course! So we traveled together to Den Haag for George's baptism. Daniel had told us later that he didn't want to go to the baptism, but something inside him told him he needed to go. So we walked into the church building in Den Haag, and Daniel walked right up to George, gave him a big hug, and they started talking to each other like they had been friends for years. All the missionaries looked at each other surprised, but it turns out that Daniel and George are old friends from Nigeria. They grew up in the same village, about 200 meters from each other! What a miracle. After the baptism, Daniel told us that the Spirit had witnessed to him that the gospel is true, that he needed to be baptized, and that he would be! So we were ready to prepare him for baptism. Then came the next obstacle. Daniel was planning to go to Nigeria to visit his family, and wanted to wait until after his vacation to be baptized. That would postpone it about 2 months. As missionaries, that concerned us, but we knew that Daniel needed to decide for himself. So we took him to General Conference, with a prayer in our hearts that he would receive confirmation to be baptized, and not to postpone receiving those blessings! So we went. We had an appointment after a session, and Daniel was still insisting on waiting until after vacation to be baptized. So after we talked about baptism for a while, we continued on to the other part of our lesson. Then randomly, in the middle of reviewing the Plan of Salvation, Daniel looked at us and said, "I want to be baptized on April 14th. I know I need to be baptized, and I will be baptized on April 14." Another miracle! To be honest, we, as missionaries, were shocked! But so happy, and we knew the Lord had answered our prayers. Since General Conference, Daniel has moved forward with his decision without looking back. He was baptized on April 14th in Den Haag. He is already a strong member of the ward, and a great example for those around him, especially us as missionaries. Sister Herring and Sister Davies
