The Brubaker Family

The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

Zone Conference With The Apeldoorn and The Hague Zones

Zone Conference
July 2011

What is our Culture?
What do we Do?
Who are We?
President Brubaker felt that with so many new missionaries in our mission, it was important for every missionary to be able to answer these questions with no hesitation. In the two zones we have 6 new missionaries.
Sister Gardner, Sister Larsen, Elder Bickham, Elder Hyer, Elder Pope, and Elder Pitchforth

We Baptize

We want to bring people to Christ through baptism. Showed a painting of Christ as a young man teaching in the temple. Spoke of how this picture was very popular – kept cropping it to get closer and closer and finally just used his face and it was still so popular. Christ is versatile, he is everything. Christ is the ultimate, he does it all, as we teach, we teach of Jesus Christ. It’s baptism into His church, for the remission of sins.

Matthew 16:15-16 Who is Christ? What does the word Christ mean? The anointed. The son of the living God. We believe he is the literal son of Heavenly Father.1 Peter 1:20 Foreordained before in council of heaven. We were all in that meeting before this life. All the people we teach were there. He was the anointed one, the only one. D&C 93:21 He was in beginning with the Father. He was firstborn of the Father. 3 Nephi 9:18 He is the light. Talked of Tynsdale who was jailed for publishing the Bible. He begged for candles saying it was not right to leave anyone alone and without light. His request was denied. He had the light of Christ in his heart. He helped bring the word to us.

We Love

Sister Brubaker spoke on love. Each one of us have been given divine qualities. On our mission, this is the time to develop these qualities. 3 Nephi 27:27 what manner of men ought ye to be? Even as I am. Don’t have to compare ourselves to others, Jesus Christ is our example to follow. Verse 28 - If we have something we really desire, we need to ask. It might not come right away, but we can see it happening in time. PMG Christlike Attributes – in our mission we take one attribute and work on one each month. Page 118 charity and love.

Think of your companion, think of a Christlike attribute that they have. Asked for examples of attributes that your companion has.

We had a precious time, as missionaries shared Christlike Qualities that they admired in their companion.

We Are Obedient

When President Brubaker was on his mission, he remembers his mission president saying in his first zone conference, "You’re all adults and I’m going to treat you as such, unless you prove me wrong." We have a very obedient mission.

Obedience means following the will of God.
Our senior couples provided a delicious healthy meal.
After lunch we had a panel of missionaries. The missionaries were able to ask questions about the white

handbook to these older, well seasoned missionaries: On the panel was Elder Sanford, Elder Brockbank,

Elder Waldie, and Elder Bair.
Elder Marshall talked about treating the members like "Gold."

E. Marshall spoke on using members – members have to receive a confirmation of helping with missionary work. As missionaries, we need to be a blessing to them and they will receive spirit that they need to help with the work. When you go to visit members, sometimes they’re lonely and they’re looking for a friend. We actually aren’t supposed to just visit and they don’t want you to leave. Practice leaving in 45 mins to an hour. Always need to be with your companion. Make sure members know you’re companions and need to stay together.

We Follow Preach My Gospel

We love Preach My Gospel! This coming month we’re going to read PMG as a mission. Read 7 pages a day. By end of August we should be done, like the Book of Mormon challenge, finish it by end of August.

We Contact Everyone

With the spirit, at least 20/day, with quality gospel conversations, to get appointments, in consecrated hours. Look through the eyes of the Lord as you teach people – see them as the Lord sees them.

Perfect love castest out all fear. There’s a sense of urgency, we’re only here for a short time. Missionaries spoke of how they learn to follow the spirit.

We Forget Selves and Serve Others

It really helps as new missionaries arrive, to be reminded – great advice. Jesus washing his disciples feet was an example of service.

Sis Ence - Told story of Sis Brubaker talking to Faith, got to know her, made a huge impact on her testimony and her decision to be baptized. Listening is often a great act of service. Mentioned, Elder Matthews would clean toilets when he went on exchanges.

Elder Bickham is wearing his father's missionary suit when he was a young missionary! I thought it was so great that his father had kept his suit all of these years, and now Elder Bickham is again wearing it to serve the Lord.
These missionaries were so excited to have everyone together from their original MTC District at Zone Conference!

We Plan Well and Strive to Reach our Goals

Assistants showed chart on how we’re doing on baptisms. Baptismal calendar helped a lot. Set personal goals. These are people, not numbers. E. Ballard talked about the importance of setting goals – if we don’t, we look back on life and not have accomplished much. If learn how to set goals, will progress so much faster, and God will be able to work through us. We’re His tools. If we do our best to reach our goals, and that’s all we can do. If others won’t hear our message, we have the satisfaction of knowing we’ve done our best.

This is Our Culture,

This What We Do,

This Is Who We Are!
