George, Haarlem, August 20, 2011
One day here in Haarlem we were heading out for an appt. We rode our bikes past a less-active member’s house, who we had previously tried to look up and call several times before but to no avail. We both felt like we should stop by again though. And when we did, he was finally there! We met not only him for the first time, but also his brother, George, who had just moved there a few days previous. He introduced us to his brother and we gave him a book of Mormon and invited him to church the next Sunday. Well, George, he came! And we set up an appointment with him for that week. He came to that and he seemed really excited. We challenged him to follow the example to Jesus and be baptized 5 1/2 weeks later and he said "Why not, I want to do all I can to follow Christ. He's done everything for me." As the Spirit taught him those next 5 weeks, George kept all of his commitments, understood doctrine, and found a lot of hope and peace. He read and still reads the scriptures everyday, and even though he is a little shy, is excited and proud of the choices he's made. His baptism was beautiful. And then the following day he received the gift of the Holy Ghost and the Priesthood. After being asked what how he felt after church that day, he said "good". And when asked what that meant and after thinking about it for a few seconds, he replied, "Refreshed, I feel refreshed." He really was prepared and ready! He's Great. Plus-He's helped reactivate his brother, whose been coming to church now again, and is planning on now staying active!
