The Brubaker Family

The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

Amersfoort, Arnhem, Apeldoorn and Hengelo Visits

On Thursday morning we started in the Apeldoorn district. We first visited Amersfoort.
Ooops! We missed a floor!
We finally found the elders!
Elder Nielson and Elder Hendrickson are so happy to be serving together in a most beautiful part of the Netherlands.
These two elders are so obedient and then some. They have been asked to speak to at least 20 people a day. No one seemed to be interested on this particular day. But the 21st person they talked to, the 21st door, he wanted to know more. they gave him a Book of Mormon, and have a return appointment in 2 days.
There is a new member that was recently baptized. He is a taxi driver. He is so excited about the church, he keeps a supply of pass along cards and Books of Mormon in his cab, and is constantly talking to people about the church.
Then we drove to the hilly city of Arnhem.
Elder Hanks and Elder van Overbeek are super positive and love being missionaries.
The elders went to an area to do a consecrated hour. They felt really good about this certain area. They stayed in that area for three hours, and now have 4 progressing investigators and 3 potentials!
I got all excited when we went to Apeldoorn! I encourage the elders to eat lots of fruits and vegetables! It looks like someone is paying attention!
Elder Wang, Elder Sanford, and Elder Wait are serving in Apeldoorn together.
Rita is a very special Dutch women they found during a consecrated hour. In the morning they all had a feeling to cross the big bridge in Deventer and go to this little town and chose this certain street. It took about 45 minutes to walk there. They started with a prayer. Lots of people were willing to talk. Came to the end of a street and started on another street. Elder Sanford saw a cat in the window and had an impression to talk about pets. He had never done this before. But he followed the prompting. A lady came to the door, and Elder Sanford said, "Don’t you think it is beautiful how pets can be our best friends if we take good care of them. She opened right up, and said, "Yes that is exactly how I feel!" They conversed for a few minutes and then the subject turned to musical instruments and shared what instruments they played. When she mentioned the guitar, he perked up and asked if he could play a song for her. She Invited them in, and Elder Sanford played. She told the elders that she had cancer, and was undergoing a very strong chemotherapy treatment. They talked with her about the Plan of Salvation. Hearts were touched and she felt their sincerity and concern. They have a follow-up appointment.
Our last apartment for the day was in Hengelo.
Elder Kuttler and Elder Pope were happy to see us, and we were happy to see them!

An inactive member was given an invitation to come to church. He agreed to come to church, and he did. After church he really wanted to pay his tithing. And he did. He called this week and said he found an inactive member who was in the hospital. The elders went to the hospital gave her a blessing. Today they brought her the sacrament. She is going home tomorrow, much earlier than expected. Melvin and Miriam are now so excited to be back in the fold.
