The Brubaker Family

President Brubaker and I are excited to be here as the Mission President and companion of the Belgium Brussels Netherlands Mission! We love your sons and daughters, and feel to thank you for the wonderful missionaries you have raised! This is a very unique mission. Our mission includes two countries, and five languages, not including many dialects spoken in the Netherlands. The missionaries are teaching many people from all around the globe. With the help of the Spirit, the missionaries are finding those who have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This is truly the best mission in the world, and we are honored to be a part of it. We will try and take good care of your sons and daughters. We love them so much already!

We have 5 children and 11 wonderful grand children. We have so much fun together! We are grateful for the support they have given us as we prepared to leave for three years. Our home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have raised our family in the Millcreek Holladay area. We enjoy many activities together. We are happiest when we are hiking in Southern Utah, cross-country skiing into our rustic cabin in the Uintahs, enjoying a good game of Train or Settlers of Catan, or just being together and sharing a meal with each other. We love our family so much!!!

Enkhuizen in Noord Holland

We had a pleasant surprise! No time to be too sad! Our oldest daughter, Tiffany, her husband, Jacob, and our youngest daughter Rachel came to visit!

We spent the day in Enkhuizen!

Enkhuizen was one of the harbour-towns, just like Hoorn and Amsterdam, from where overseas trade with the East Indies was conducted.

Enkhuizen received city rights in 1355. In the mid-17th century, Enkhuizen was at the peak of its power and was one of the most important harbour cities in the Netherlands. However, due to a variety of reasons, notably the silting up of the harbours, Enkhuizen lost its position to Amsterdam.

Nowadays, Enkhuizen continues the maritime tradition and has one of the largest marinas of the Netherlands. It is also the location of the Zuiderzeemuseum, an open-air museum reflecting life in the villages around the Zuiderzee throughout history.

Most of the buildings in the museum come from other locations in the Netherlands, such as Purmerend and Amsterdam.
We felt like we had stepped back in time.
It was a crisp, beautiful fall day.
We have some daring ones in our group, who tried the smoked herring, smoked right in the old smoke house
We found a simpler way of life
Only Dutch was spoken in the 1800's. So we tried to communicate in our best Dutch!
A few hand motions really helped!
Fishing nets were all made by hand.
We enjoyed just being together, and found a great place for a picnic lunch! What a fun
day we shared together in this great little find in the Netherlands!
